Windows can get into a state where certain hardware devices or software programs just won't work properly. Just as you get used to certain airplanes or cars, Windows does too. In Windows XP, if you find that some of your network printer or networking hardware just won't work, then you may have to either get a new print server or a new networking switch. In Windows 7, if you find the 2-way or dial-up modem refuses to work or that the ADODB driver for Oracle or Interbase just isn't working, then you might need to get a new printer or networking switch. In Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012, if some of the devices you connect to the network just won't work, you might need to get a new network switch.
Maybe you found a Windows 7 disc on a friend's desk and want to boot to that disk, but you don't think you can put your Windows 7 disc back on your workstation and use it in the future. Let's say you need a disk image for a presentation to be delivered to a client tomorrow. Well, you have two options. Option 1: You can make a repair installation to your existing Windows 7 disc. When you start the installation, you'll be presented with a screen that looks like this:
Here, you'll be presented with options that will allow you to repair the installation or do a "Factory Repair". If you select "Repair", you'll then be presented with a similar screen as shown in the following figure:
Then, you'll have the option to restore or delete the backup image of your Windows 7 disc. You can also get "Restart now" and be back at the screen shown in the figure above. Option 2: If your Windows 7 disc is only available during office hours, you could just use a Windows 7 USB 2.0 flash drive instead. Use a Windows PC to boot to that USB device and start your presentation. d2c66b5586
