They charge a selling fee, which means a certain percentage of what you make off your equipment, you will lose to the website. They also charge for using certain special features of the site, and it costs to post listings if you have topped more than fifty listings for the month.
Another well-established online platform, Craigslist is super popular with musicians trying to sell their gear. Every major city (or county / metropolitan area) has its own Craigslist site, so you will be selling locally, and have a pretty good idea of what your potential buyers are looking for.
A lot of musicians choose Craigslist to sell their old equipment. In most cases, you will have a successful sale and get it done quickly. That said, there is some risk of meeting a scammer, and there is some risk of not selling your item at all, because the buyer group is just too small.
Facebook is the social media juggernaut that you probably already have on your computer and mobile device. The good news is that you can put Facebook to work for you and help you sell your your musical equipment with very little effort.
This can be particularly effective if you have a lot of fellow musicians in your local area, since it takes a lot of the guesswork out of buying something online from an unknown face far away. Very often, these groups are niched down quite well (you can find groups specifically for Eurorack buy/sell, Guitar buy/sell, Synthesizer buy/sell etc).
Answer: Different people prefer different online marketplaces due to varying features, but Reverb is generally considered to be the best for selling guitars as it is exclusively for the sale of musical equipment.
I wish you the best on your guitar selling journey, regardless of why you are doing it. However, out of all the reasons to sell a guitar, I hope that you are doing it to set up a guitar buying and selling business. Believe me, there is nothing more fulfilling than making a living from something that you are passionate about. Good luck!
Reverb updated their selling fee from 3.5% to 5% in August 2020. There are still no listing fees and the maximum fee you can be charged by Reverb is $500 (ex. If you sell a $10,000 item). Reverb still has the lowest sales fees of any other marketplace of its kind for music gear of any type.
LetGo is now part of OfferUp, with the latter replacing the app version of Letgo. Much like Craigslist, the site (and mobile app) is primarily used for local sales. When selling locally, there are no fees to sell through OfferUp. However, there are fees if you sell the item where shipping is required. In this case, there is a 12.9% fee on the total sale value, not including shipping. The buyer pays shipping.
Their whole model, when it comes to buying used gear, is to buy extremely low in order to sell it back in their stores for a decent profit. The same goes for any other used music store (or pawn shop), they need to be able to ensure they can make a profit.
In conclusion, I would highly recommend selling your gear on Craiglist and/or Reverb if you want to get the most money for your musical instruments and other music equipment. Only resort to eBay or shops like Guitar Center if you need the cash ASAP.
Hi Cody,Very interesting points there. Would you mind if I ask a question I am starting an online guitar shop with gears and accessories, would you know what guitar gear, parts, accessories are selling the most I mean anything from the guitar fan hat, t-shirt, necklace, to pickups, amps, strings, pins etc. Obviously, the main product will be acoustic and electric guitars but those are not that kind of a product that you would make real profit from, hence the price range and usually one guitar is for the lifetime, if you know what I mean. Looks like that you are pretty skilled in this industry so would appreciate an advice or at least opinion on this. Thanks Miro
I have a la Patrie presentation trans black six string acoustic guitar. I have seen some of the la patrie guitars that are quite expensive. I have googled looked at eBay IT looked like someone sold on auction over a hundred dollars. I would like to find what a fair price is for it or just find out its actual value is. All help would be appreciated. A friend of mine has breast cancer the bills are piling up any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Craigslist is a total waste of time in South Florida. Scammers, utter cheap a-holes who want your gear for nothing OR the absent minded neanderthals who sell their gear for Ebay prices! Ive used Reverb and it beats Ebay by a mile. Great customer service and so far the sellers and buyers are all easy to deal with because they probably hate Ebay and CL as well!
Actually GuitarCenter only pays you 50% of what they sell that item for used online and they will give you 60% of what they sell it for used online if your going to buy something right then and there from them.
My brother, a musician in the Dallas area, recently passed away. Fortunately, two of his former band members have helped us sell a Yamaha drum set, 30 guitars, lighting system, etc. However, we still have several types of midi controllers, as well as MANY special effects pedals. Any suggestions on how to sell these Weve got to clear out his music room.

These days many guitarists prefer to sell online, so who better to ask about successful tactics for selling via the internet than Dan Orkin of music gear marketplace Reverb.com
The first step to take as a future merchant is to research and decide the type of guitars you want to sell. Do you want to sell new or used guitars Guitars are generally divided into two categories, acoustic and electric. Plus, you have to choose between making your own guitars or getting them from well-known designers such as Fender or Ibanez. Once you have made the decision, you can launch your Shopify store and start selling.
The Shopify platform allows you to build your own online store and customize it the way you want without ever touching the code. Another option you have is selling on third-party marketplaces such as eBay, Facebook Marketplace, Samash, Thomann, and Reverb, specializing in musical instruments. You can integrate those third-party options with your Shopify store as well.
Yes, you can. Shopify is a platform that allows merchants to sell guitars online. There are no restrictions on the number of guitars or other musical instruments you can sell on your Shopify store. Plus, Shopify has a vast range of templates that can inspire you to create a unique and visually appealing online store.
There is a wide range of different prices for acoustic and electric guitars. For example, you can find guitars ranging from a few hundred dollars to in the thousands depend on the brand and rarity of the guitar. Some factors to consider are whether they are electric, acoustic, or electric-acoustic, the number of strings, and the quality of the materials. When pricing, consider that electric guitars are more expensive than acoustic guitars because they usually need more accessories such as amplifiers.
There are numerous reasons why you might decide to sell your guitar equipment. Sometimes, it is to buy a better one, or simply, because you are not using it at all. But opting to sell your gear is just the first step of the process. The real problem comes when you try to find a buyer.
The first category are stores that you should check out. They might offer a good deal, low fees, or have a high number of users. Whatever the reason may be, these stores and websites are an excellent choice for someone looking to sell their gear.
Reverb is a website that was designed for selling music equipment, and there are hundreds of thousands of users each month. The main quality of Reverb is that the website is specifically for musicians. Unlike Craigslist, where you can sell anything, it is more focused and more likely that the potential buyer will find you.
Firstly, the entire website is designed for them, and it is the safest and easiest way to buy or sell gear. All visitors are musicians, and there are no non-music categories like on Craigslist. But more importantly, the fees are quite low. At least compared to other platforms.
On Reverb, it will cost you 5% of the total price of the item you are selling. The minimum is $0.50 while the maximum is $500. The last thing you should consider is the potential additional fees that are based on the payment method. If you are using PayPal, for example, you will need to pay another 2.9% plus $0.30.
In 2020, OfferUp acquired its rival Letgo, and they merged into one company. There is no denying that the app works on a similar principle as Craigslist, and it is mostly designed for local sales. With this in mind, you should know that there are no additional fees if you are selling a piece of equipment locally. 59ce067264
